Special to the Uplift Foundation
On Saturday, May 9, the Uplift Foundation held its annual joint scholarship reception, where it awarded its highest-ever total of college scholarships to seven deserving young men graduating from the Clark County School District.
Uplift awarded $15,750 in scholarships during the ceremony. Zaire Franklin, Jalen Glover, John Groom, Earl Hughes and Eyasu Kebede each received $3,000 apiece. Weston Bennett and Jordan Davis each received $350 book scholarship.
The scholarships are made possible through Uplift’s fundraising efforts and a 10-year-old partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Las Vegas in which RMHCGLV provides a 50 percent match to Uplift’s funds.
Through the partnership, Uplift has awarded more than $90,000 in scholarships to 58 young men since 2005. The reception is a collaboration between Uplift, the Theta Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the Kappa Xi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and the 20 Pearls Foundation.
